Community Impact:
One of the most gratifying parts of our line of work is when you get to make an investment into transforming the fabric of the community you live in, work in, and play in . . . and it is even better when you see an immediate, measurable return on your investment. Such is the case for this project at Virginia Tech near the heart of downtown Blacksburg. Virginia Tech’s class of 1959 was working with VT Landscape Architect Matt Gart towards the goal of renovating the plaza located near the Graduate Life Center (and Squires, the Library, and the University Bookstore). Their vision was to transform the "GLC Plaza" into a vibrant and exciting place - something that simply wasn’t happening in this tired, 1970’s era, depressed plaza! Gay and Neel, Inc. had the privilege of serving Virginia Tech with architect Tim Colley http://www.colleyarchitects.com/ to completely redesign, reimage, and invigorate this plaza. GNI provided surveying, landscape architecture, and civil engineering. We think the results speak for themselves - people studying, reading, talking, sipping coffee, and mixing it up.
